After a few last-minute hiccups we’ve managed to push out OpenCD 07.02, continuing our goal to release regularly and more often than it has been in the past.![]()
Aside from the twelve updated programs (hopefully emails for oOO 2.1 will stop now
) the popular internet suite SeaMonkey has been added to the list of included programs. We normally don’t like overlap – programs that perform the same function on the disc – yet SeaMonkey has a great development team, is updated often and most importantly it works and people enjoy using it.
People familiar with OpenCD will no doubt be confused at the latest version number. Versions before this were 4.0, 3.1, 3.0 etcetera. Aside from light cosmetic changes, there really wasn’t any clear method behind the iteration, so essentially it was redundant. We’re now using YY.MM so people at a glance can see how new (or old) a particular version is. It’s a fair criticism to say that anybody unaware of the logic behind it wouldn’t have the faintest idea what it represented, but in the least it helps anybody associated with the development, sale or distribution of OpenCD.
I’ve given the physical disc distributors a forty-eight hour window to update their stores, so we shouldn’t have the constant problem of nobody selling the disc on release. Also in the official announcement for 07.02 I mentioned the new email list that people could sign up to be alerted of new versions – hopefully this doesn’t backfire and kill the email server.
